"Living By Numbers"copyright Sue 2008

Numbers in time measure out years,
add up our age,our hopes and our fears;
the clock ticks with a smile on its face
and laughs at our debits when we exit this place.

Pushbutton life,key up online
balance of payments,credit card crime
a digital world,numbers your home,
feeling depressed just dial on the phone.

Follow the figures, you're ninth in the queue
clock chimes out "better things to do"
turn that switch press that dial
mood music plays all the while.

Chck in check out your flight's delayed
the Visa bill still isn't paid
traffic warden slaps a note on your car
while you're still at Gatwick to travel afar.

Number eight your time is up
leave from the back, you're out of luck
the ball is falling, wheel is spun-
perhaps your joy has just begun!
