Rumours used as rifles
loaded with meaning
instead of bullets;
target only a whispered name
words can kill just the same.
Puns in pubs,coffee chat,
comments heard in dusty room -
who did what and with whom,
jagged pebbles on the beach
cut the feet as careless speech.
Slander,puns,by decree,
who's talking now it isn't me
gossip hearsay please do listen
turn around and pay attention
to those things we shouldn't mention.
Remarks, reports,rusty news,
semantic blindness verbal views
poetry,books,steal their prose
towering talk think and titter
odorous heap of language litter.
Take a breath,doubt and death
ride the linguistic carousel,
joyous jokes play the games
juggle with nouns until they land
sniggers behind secret hand.
Rope of slander hangman's noose
sarcastic sounds of abuse
retorts ripostes no actual use
chat and quarrel never hear
phrases burn in atmosphere.
